Ladder safety

What are the hazards?
Who might be harmed and why?
What are you already doing?
Do you need to do anything else to control this risk?
Action by who?
Action by when?
Done?
Dropping something from up the ladder.
People beneath you, the person spotting you, the equipment.
We have safety bonds for lanterns so they don’t drop.
Make surely you’ve got a firm grip on what your carrying up/down the ladder.
You need to make sure that everything is secure up the ladder before you go down again.
You need to make sure everything is safe before you go back down again.

Ladder braking
The person climbing the ladder along with the person spotting you or people who are close by.
Making sure the ladder is secure and the hinges are folded down properly and that there are no steps missing.
That whoever last used the ladder had put it away properly so it could be used again without risk.
Whoever is using the ladder or last used the ladder.
Before you put it away for someone else to use.

Slips and trips
The person climbing the ladder and people around the ladder
Making sure the ladder is dry and you have appropriate footwear on.
Make sure the spotter has got a good grip of the  ladder.
You and your spotter.
Before you go up or down the ladder.
